Sun, powder snow and a lot of fun & training: Highly motivated students and teachers arrived on the 8th of January in the snowy village Gries im Sellrain, to enjoy some winter sport activities. The whole team stayed at the “Stuppenhof”, a nice private guesthouse.
The trip was part of a study-related field trip, which helped the students to gain practical insight in typical sporting events and and in different sport disciplines. This meant a lot of important practical experience, but also a lot of fun for our “Exercise & Sports Sciences – Human Movement” students.
Important parts of this winter trip were the snowboard training (performed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Mierau from LUNEX) and the ski training (performed by Christina Lutz from LUNEX).
Besides general information about alpine risks, safety aspects and a short introduction in physiological adaptions of the cardiovascular system in high altitude, the students learned technical aspects of alpine skiing and snowboarding, as well as didactic and methodic principles of teaching (snow) sports. Practical experiences were collected by performing technical exercises and giving demonstration lessons for the fellow students. Improving the students´ ski or snowboard technique and teaching performance, are necessary for becoming a good ski or snowboard instructor.
The students were divided in a group of beginners and a group of advanced, according to their skills. However, all skiers, snowboarders, beginners and advanced students met, ate and laughed together. In the afternoon, the students had the opportunity for free training runs. Some motivated students also tried cross-country skiing with the two LUNEX lecturers or went to do some night skiing. After finishing the practical exams under really hard weather conditions, students and teachers really deserved a funny last evening with a sledding competition and the best Kaiserschmarrn of Tirol.
All in all, we had a great time, great experiences and a great team!
