Certificate in
High Velocity Low Amplitude Spinal Thrust Manipulation (Cert. SM)
Upon successful completion of SM series (SM-1 and SM-2), candidates are awarded the Certification in Spinal Manipulative Therapy (Cert. SM) credential. The SM-1 course can be done as a standalone event with the release of a participation certificate.
This certification recognizes those practitioners that have demonstrated:
- Safe and competent performance in the delivery of HVLA thrust manipulation procedures in all spinal, pelvic and thorax regions.
- An in depth understanding of the rationale for and against the use of HVLA thrust manipulation.
- An understanding of the empirical evidence surrounding the use of HVLA thrust manipulation in a variety of neuromusculoskeletal conditions.

[SM-1] Science & Basics
Spinal HVLAT manipulation is still recommended within a multimodal approach as a first-line management for the most common musculoskeletal disorders of the spine. Therefore, spinal HVLAT manipulation must be integrated within the skill set of the modern physiotherapist. This basic course is designed with a perfect mix of didactic lectures and hands-on practical training. The most updated evidence will be presented to debunk the myths around this therapeutic tool allowing a safe and effective delivery. The exclusive and innovative techniques will be easily learn thanks to the extensive practical hands-on training. At the end of the course, the participant will learn to deliver one technique for each spinal level of the spine, from C0-C1 to the sacroiliac joint.

Useful information
During this 16-hour course (30% theory, 70% hands-on practical), ongoing up-to-date evidence will be presented that underpins a modern, effective, and safe delivery of high velocity low amplitude spinal thrust manipulation for spinal disorders. Participants will learn the contraindication and to deliver one technique for each region of the spine:
- C0-1 (occipito-atlantal joint)
- C1-2 (atlanto-axial joint)
- C2-7 (mid|lower cervical spine)
- C7-T3 (cervicothoracic junction)
- T1-3 (upper thoracic spine)
- T4-9 (mid-thoracic spine)
- R4-9 (ribs)
- T10-L1 (thoracolumbar junction)
- L2-S1 (lumbar spine & lumbosacral junction)
- L2-S1 (lumbar spine & lumbosacral junction)
- SIJ (sacroiliac) joint
Registrants must be licensed physiotherapists or medical doctors in their respective state or country. Physiotherapy students are also allowed to participate. However, they must be at least at their third year of the bachelor degree.
[SM-2] Advanced
The SM-2 course is an in-depth analysis of the HVLA spinal thrust manipulations in the modern clinical practice of the physiotherapist. An extensive and comprehensive discussion of the main indications and mechanisms behind this intervention will provide to participants the skills for a safe, informed, and effective delivery for the management of spinal disorders.

Useful information
During this 16-hour course (30% theory, 70% hands-on practical), extensive hands-on practical training will be dedicated to perfecting the skills learned during the previous course and to learn new advanced techniques. The understanding of the mechanims, effects and evidence-based indication for spinal high velocity low amplitude thrust manipulation will provide the participants additional proficiency to master these techniques in clinical practice.
