Andreas Mierau studied Sport Sciences and Geography in Cologne, Germany as well as Human Movement Studies in Melbourne, Australia. He received his doctorate in Sport Sciences from the German Sport University Cologne in 2009. In 2007, he was awarded a PhD scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) which allowed him to conduct collaborative research at CHASE – Centre for Healthy Activity, Sport and Exercise at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia. From 2009-2016 he worked as a researcher and lecturer in the Institute of Movement and Neuroscience at the German Sport University in Cologne. Dr. Mierau was appointed Full Professor and Head of the Department of Exercise & Sport Science at LUNEX International University of Health, Exercise and Sports in Luxembourg in 2016, and he has taken over the position of the Academic Director in 2017.
Professor Mierau’s primary research interest is Sport Neuroscience. Specifically, he uses electroencephalography (EEG) and other brain imaging methods to gain further knowledge on (a) how the brain supports high achievement in sports and (b) how regular physical activity promotes brain health and functioning across the lifespan. Professor Mierau is a Fellow of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) and a member of the ECSS Review Panel. He serves as an academic editor for PLOS One and as an invited reviewer for more than 20 international peer-review journals. Furthermore, he regularly acts as an external member of evaluation committees for research funding proposals and accreditation of higher education study programmes.
