Prof. Dr. A. Mierau is the Head of Department of Exercise & Sport Science and he is the Academic Director at LUNEX International University of Health, Exercise and Sports. He received his doctorate in Sport Science from the German Sport University Cologne in 2009. Prof. Mierau is also a Fellow of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) and a member of the ECSS Review Panel. He furthermore serves as a guest editor and ad-hoc reviewer for various high impact journals in the field of Exercise & Sport Science, Neuroscience and Physiology.

Research profile

Prof. Mierau’s primary research interest is in Sport Neuroscience. Specifically, he uses electroencephalography (EEG) and other brain imaging methods to gain further knowledge on (a) how the brain supports high achievement in sports and (b) how regular physical activity promotes brain health and functioning across the lifespan. Recent research projects include “Cortical Control of Balance”, “Neural Correlates of Visuomotor Reaction Times in Fast Ball Sports” and “The Impact of Physical Exercise Training on Neural Plasticity and Transfer Capabilities in Cognitively Healthy Elderly”.
