Sports Physiotherapy



The areas of work for sports physiotherapists are very varied – they work in prevention and rehabilitation with recreational and high-performance athletes in different disciplines and treat athletes who have sustained injuries in training.

The degree program equips graduates to work with athletes at various levels in a range of sports disciplines. Focal points include competition preparation, support and therapy during competition, and rehabilitation and
recovery techniques.

What do sports physiotherapists do?

As a graduate of the degree program Sports Physiotherapy you have extensive knowledge about injuries in recreational and high-performance sports as well as a multitude of chronic diseases. You provide therapy and training that target your patients’ motor systems and strengthen their bodily well-being while counteracting physical limitations. You design therapies and rehabilitation plans You work with a focus on prevention, to counteract limitations in movement and health defects at their early stages. You treat both inpatients and outpatients of all ages and at different performance levels in their respective

As a graduate of the program, you will be able to work in both private practices and in clinics and rehabilitation centers. A career in teaching and research is also possible. The combination of the practical and the theoretical in the program provides an ideal basis for a wide variety of specialized career options.

The international program complies with the standards outlined in the Bologna Process for European degree programs. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for a license to practice sports physiotherapy Europe-wide.

Study progress

The degree program Sports Physiotherapy is based on previous completion of a Bachelor‘s degree in Physiotherapy. In seminars and practical training, knowledge on physiotherapy, medicine, psychology, biology, nutrition and sport sciences will be improved. The two semesters culminate in the completion of a master‘s thesis.
